Its easy to choose the components for a board for your house,garage or sleepout:
- Choose the size of the board – 6 way for a few power points and lights in your garage,15 way for a very small house or large garage installation, 30 way for a small to medium house, 45 way boards for an average to large modern house, up to 60 way boards (the largest PDL domestic size).
- Main switch – you need to know the number of poles (related to the number of live wires coming into your house plus one pole for controlled water heating perhaps), your sparky should advise but double pole is a good minimum,three pole for additional controlled water heating or nightrate heating.
- Circuit breakers – as a guide: lighting 10 amp,hot water cylinder 16 amp,power point circuits 20 amps,spa 16 amp, electric cooktop 25 amp,electric range 32 amp.
- RCDs – atleast 2 (or preferably 3 for larger boards) should be fitted to a household domestic switchboard,protecting all the lighting and power point circuits.New regulations about to be introduced mean 1 RCD for every 3 circuits wired off it – this means a larger board and more RCDs in the very near future.
